Nico Rosberg (Mercedes W04) has topped the time sheet of the first day of the second pre-season venue of 2013, held at Barcelona, in Spain.
The German managed to go just that little bit quicker than 2007 world champion Kimi Räikkönen (Lotus E21), despite the gearbox problems that hindered his day of work.
Fernando Alonso, who skipped the first pre-season venue of Jerez to train, went third fastest in his first appearance aboard the new Ferrari F138, broken in earlier this month by teammates Felipe Massa and test driver Pedro de la Rosa.
Triple world champion Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull RB9) follows in fourth, ahead of Pastor Maldonado, who after testing the old Williams FW34 in Jerez two weeks ago, finally got the new FW35 out today.
And in its first outing, the 2013 Williams rapidly caught the eye of the FIA, which told its team, and Caterham's too, their exhaust designs, although different, were both illegal. The two teams tried helping the air flow around the area by adding pieces of bodywork behind the exhaust.
In the illegal Caterham CT03, Charles Pic brought the rear on the time sheet.
