Car wash kits are so last year. Take a look at these unique gifts for Dad and his ride.

Whose dad doesn't like cars?! With Father's day just around the corner, chances are you're trying to find him an original and exciting gift he'll enjoy--something more thrilling than the usual pail-full of car-cleaning supplies or a fancy wash-adapter for the garden hose.

I've been looking for some unique and different Father's day gifts too, and came across a few particularly interesting ones. Here's a look.

License Plate Flash Frames:
These license plate frames have an interesting add-on. With a remote control, you can program a scrolling message to display across the bottom, illuminated in bright LEDs for day and night visibility. Dad can store up to 5 different messages and set various scrolling speeds. They're available for motorbikes too. Imagine the opportunities for misbehavior!

Driving LED Emoticon: This smiley little light is attached to face out the rear window of your Dad's car, while displaying the driver's mood to those following. Using a wireless remote, Dad can select from a smiling or frowning face, or the words "Thanks, Back Off, or Idiot".

Driving Glasses:
It's important to keep your eyes protected while driving so they work their best for years to come. Harmful UV rays and blinding glare can wreak havoc with the retinas and result in excessive squinting.

If Dad spends lots of time behind the wheel, you might consider buying him a pair of driving glasses. I've found some of the coolest pairs on the market.

Dragon Alliance "FastBack" ($178): These feature a lightweight metal frame which comes in several colors and lenses. They're smart looking without screaming for attention, and are polarized to block out harmful reflections. (www.dragoncanada.com)

Spy Optics "Cloverdale" ($109 USD). The newest style from Spy is called the "Cloverdale" and features a daring aviator shape and optically-correct lens with slight green color. Spy says these shades are a nod to both the future and the past, and they offer 100% UV protection too. (www.spyoptic.com)

Giarre.com shades ($253) feature a distinct Italian style with Essilor Airwear Xelios lenses for unmatched protection. One peek through Giarre's sunglasses demonstrates the quality of the optics, which are polarized. (www.giarre.com)

Dragon, Giarre and Spy glasses make great fashion accessories which your dad can use to keep his eyes safe and protected when on the road, out fishing, hiking or skiing.
