Fiat isn’t just about cute little hatchbacks, turns out they know how to make 2+2 seater convertibles, too. And if you thought the Fiat 124 Spider was dead and gone, think again.

According to Edmunds.com, the 2017 Fiat 124 Spider will debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Auto Show, and we have to say we’re actually excited to see it. Originally designed by Pininfarina, and now sharing the same platform as the brand new RWD 2016 Mazda MX-5, there’s promise for this little roadster to offer some serious competition for the Miata.

And while it might seem like a bit of an oddball in the Fiat lineup (that includes the 500, 500L and now the 500X), Fiat Brand of North America insists it makes perfect sense as an addition to the family, mainly because of the history it brings back to the brand.

While no pricing or specs have been released, there’s speculation that Fiat’s 1.4L 4-cyl plant, and the price will hover in the $25k-$30k zone. The 2017 Fiat 124 Spider will be assembled in Mazda’s Hiroshima, Japan plant.
