Ford breaking from the norm.

The Ford Motor Company is making an effort to stand out in the advertising world. Their all-new Fusion, in dealerships for the last few weeks, is the star that they are campaigning for. Their catch phrase for the Fusion is "Create a reaction".

Most of us have seen the add on television where things like corn popping and flames shooting out of a statue occur as the car travels down a road. This is the necessary step that any company must take when presenting a new product on the market. Ford is taking marketing to the next level. To attract a younger, affluent and sophisticated crowd, they have decided to add an interactive angle to promoting the Fusion.

Just outside of section 103 of the Bell Centre, Ford has installed a special display in front of a Fusion. A GestureTek developed projector projects various images on the floor. The interesting part is that any passer-by can place his or her feet in the image and make things happen. For example, a red Fusion appears and by stepping into the "GroundFX" projection, it will change colour. Likewise, atoms can be kicked around in the image by simply moving one's foot. The images also include shots of the structure and standard safety features of the Fusion.

With such an exhibit at the Bell Centre, it only made sense that Ford would drive a few examples of the Fusion on the ice during the second intermission. What else do Montrealers like as much as their hockey? Their cars of course!

At the same time, Ford is running a contest on www.createareaction.com where one lucky person will be able to win a brand new Fusion.

Pricing for Ford's protégé starts at $22,999 for a well-equipped SE model. It features an inline 4-cylinder, 2.3L engine that develops 160 hp. Transmission choices reside between a 5-speed manual and automatic. For an extra $3,000, a 221 hp 3.0L V6 SE can be yours with traction control and a 6-speed automatic transmission. At top-of-the-line SEL V6 retails for $28,299.
