Despite increased competition from many carmakers this year, the Ford S-Max beat out 7 worthy contenders (Citroën C4 Picasso, Fiat Grande Punto,
Honda Civic, Vauxhall Corsa, Peugeot 207, Skoda Roomster and Volvo C30) for the title of "Car of the Year 2007" as awarded by 7 leading European publications.
Ford's ideology behind the vehicle was to create a spacious and versatile machine that drives like a sports sedan. The S-Max, which competes with products like the Honda Civic, Vauxhall Corsa and Peugeot 207, is most commonly purchased as a top-line model. Features include Interactive Vehicle Dynamics Control and an active suspension system. The S-Max also achieved a 5-star Euro NCAP rating and is the first production vehicle to carry with it Fords new kinetic design language.
The unique packaging seems to be working, as the S-Max has sold 4000
copies since its launch in June and proudly boasts a growing order bank.
"We are absolutely delighted that this all-new model in the Ford range has secured the ultimate accolade as Car of the Year, especially against such worthy competitors and in a year that has seen a record number of eligible contenders," said Roelant de Waard, Chairman and Managing Director of Ford of Britain. "Since we launched S-MAX earlier this year, we have been amazed at the reaction to the car, both from the opinion forming media as well as our customers."
