To compete in a top Formula 3 series could become mandatory for any young aspiring Formula 1 drivers in the very near future.

Italian motorsport web site italiaracing.net wrote Monday that this suggestion will be part of the discussions held at the next World Counsil of motor sport of the FIA in September.

FIA President Jean Todt would like to re-evaluate the development series that lead to Formula 1 so to offer better training grounds for young drivers who will become the next generation of Grand Prix stars.

The former Ferrari boss would like Formula 3 to become a mandatory step in order for a young driver to be granted a F1 Super License.

This could cause a few problems to the new GP3 series which is in direct competition with the Formula 3. Both the GP3 and GP2 series are headed by Bruno Michel, a close ally of Flavio Briatore who has been excluded from international motorsport last year.

However, if the project is accepted, it would immensely help the Formula 3 Euroseries which saw its starting grids shrink dramatically during the recent years

Accoring to italiaracing.net, the FIA would like to create some sort of an International Formula 3 Series which would include the most prestigious F3 events in the world such as Monaco, the Masters at Zandvoort and Macau.
