In the Grand Prix de Pau, third round of the FIA Formula 3 International Trophy that was newly founded for this season, Marco Wittmann of the Signature team claimed a dominant lights-to-flag victory.

Wittmann is the first German after Jörg Müller in 1996 to win the prestigious Grand Prix de Pau.

On the 2.76 kilometres long street circuit at the foot of the Pyrenees, Spaniards Roberto Merhi (Prema Powerteam) and Daniel Juncadella (Prema Powerteam) battled for second place with Merhi just coming out on top.

Wittmann took the lead from pole position and was able to pull a gap from the start of the race. The German then went on to drive an undisputed lights-to-flag victory home.

Behind him, the two Spaniards Roberto Merhi and Daniel Juncadella were in a tight battle for second place. Eventually, Merhi's better start gave him the advantage to take the chequered flag just ahead of his fellow countryman.

Behind the two, Daniel Abt (Signature) was almost able to close up to the Spanish duo in the closing stages. The German ended up fourth from Carlos Muñoz (Signature).

Frenchman Tom Dillmann suffered from terminal gearbox failure after four laps.
