Taking advantage of all the visibility provided by the Greater Los Angeles Auto Show, Ford unveiled its all-new fuel cell Explorer. This SUV has a range of about 560 kilometers, which is better than any
hydrogen-powered vehicle currently on the market. In the world of green vehicles, this 6-passenger Explorer joins the Escape Hybrid as well as all the other low-emission cars manufactured by the blue-oval brand..
Weighing 2,560 kilos, the fuel cell Explorer is equipped with a 4WD system, just like the regular model. As far as the powertrain is concerned, it uses two 65-kilowatt electric motors. The tank can store up to 10 kilos of hydrogen (with a 700-bar pressure). As we said earlier, the range is more than 560 kilometers. Meanwhile, fuel consumption is slightly less than 10 L/100 km.
The fuel cell Explorer is the result of a partnership between Ford and the United States Department of Energy. Their goal is to find new solutions that have less consequences on the environment than current powertrains.
