Chevrolet Corvette ties for the top spot in the premium sports car segment — ranking highest in the segment for the fifth consecutive year in a row. Following its introduction last year, the Corvette captured its segment in the J.D. Power and Associates 2001 Initial Quality Study, released in May.

"General Motors' focus on design and innovation is delivering vehicles that appeal to customers," said Tom Davis, GM group vice president of product development. "It's very gratifying to have our customers recognize our achievements. And, it's equally gratifying to share the J.D. Power and Associates awards with our employees, unions, dealers, suppliers and business partners, who are focused on continuously improving design and innovation."

Additionally, eight GM vehicles placed 2nd or 3rd in seven vehicle segments.

Four cars placed in the top three of their respective segments: Pontiac Grand Am (2nd), entry midsize car; Buick LeSabre (2nd), full-size car; Cadillac DeVille (2nd), mid-luxury car; and Pontiac Firebird (3rd), sporty car.

Four trucks placed in the top three of their respective segments: GMC Sierra Heavy Duty (2nd) and Chevrolet Silverado Heavy Duty (3rd), respectively, full-size pickup segment; 2002 GMC Envoy (2nd), midsize SUV; and Chevrolet Tahoe (3rd), full-size SUV.
