At the Geneva Motor Show, Tata lifted the veil on the new Pixel, an urban car the automaker hopes to conquer the European market with.

Based on the Nano, the Pixel is just a little over three metres long and can accommodate four people, who slip inside by way of huge gull-wing doors. Designed to offer a maximum amount of space, the Pixel also features the My Tata Connect infotainment system that can be controlled with a smart phone.

The Pixel is powered by a 1.2-litre turbodiesel engine and shod in low rolling resistance tires, and it features start/stop technology. With all these elements combined the car burns an estimated 3.4 L / 100 km and emits only 89 g of CO2 per km.

Tata has also equipped its model with a rather complex-sounding system, the Turn Toroidal Traction-Drive Infinitely Variable Transmission, or IVT for short. It allows the rear wheels to pivot in different directions, helping the driver to negotiate tight spaces and parallel park at the drop of a hat.

The presence of the Indian brand in Geneva was also obvious in the green pavilion, which hosted the Indica Vista electric vehicle. With a 160-km operating range, it will be offered to commercial fleets in the U.K. this summer.
