In addition to the previously announced Golf GTD, Volkswagen will launch the new Golf GTI at the Geneva Motor Show next week.
For the first time, the iconic hatchback will be available with two power levels: 220 or 230 horsepower (the latter with the optional performance pack).
Both versions are equipped with a Stop-Start system, and will meet the EU-6 emissions standard that takes effect in 2014. As for fuel economy, VW claims that the new GTI offers an 18% gain over the previous model.
The car sports red-painted brake callipers, 17'' Brooklyn wheels, special side skirts, dual chrome exhaust tips, and a lowered sport suspension.
The new Volkswagen Golf GTI is scheduled to hit the European market this May. Details for other markets have not been released yet.
