The sophisticated nature of the Subaru rally cars impressed Fishel, who oversees all of GM's racing efforts, which cover just about every kind of contest you have heard of and maybe some you have not.
In Fishel's view, the major technical opportunity in racing today involves the communications area. That is to say, the technology to broadcast the race in better and better ways to more people and thereby, the exposure given to its participants is increasing regularly.
For example, the E-GM arm of the company supplied Internet viewers a unique way to see its Cadillac and Corvette cars through a live broadcast during the recent 24-hour race at Le Mans.
This is the kind of thing, presumably, that Fishel will work on with GM's WRC team, when it comes.
