General Motors Corporation has proudly announced that their Silverado and Sierra pickup trucks have been awarded a five-star side-impact rating in government crash tests- the only full sized trucks to have done so both with and without side curtain airbags. These top marks are in addition to the trucks having previously earned the highest possible frontal crash test rating.

"Customers continue to rank safety higher on their lists for new vehicle purchases and that helped us make safety before, during, and after a crash among our chief priorities when we redesigned the all-new Silverado and Sierra pickups for the 2007 model year. The industry-leading safety attributes of these pickups add to their well-deserved and longstanding reputation for dependability and durability, the hallmarks of a great pickup truck" said Gary A. White, GM vice president for full-size trucks.

Silverado excels on the safety front with a full arsenal of crash-avoidance and occupant protection systems. These include StabiliTrak stability control with rollover mitigation technology, which is intended to electronically monitor and correct the trucks attitude on the road if it begins to skid or lose control. Roof-mounted rollover-capable curtain airbags are available, integrated within a strengthened chassis structure to provide increased head protection in a crash. GM says their new trucks are more compatible with other vehicles in crash situations as well.
