Reigning World Champion Jenson Button set the fastest time of the first practice session of the Grand Prix of Canada in Montreal.
The track was extremely slippery and the driver displayed more skills for rallying than road racing! It took some 30 minutes before a driver completed a full, timed lap around the Gilles Villeneuve circuit.
Button, driving his McLaren, set a fast lap and then focussed on assessing the balance of his car.
Michael Schumacher put his Mercedes in second place with a good quick lap to demote Lewis Hamilton (McLaren) from second place.
Nico Rosberg (Mercedes) was fourth ahead of Sebastian Vettel, Robert Kubica (Renault), Fernando Alonso (Ferrari) and Vitantonio Liuzzi (Force India).
Several drivers had off-road excursions including Schumacher, Alonso, Vitaly Petrov, Bruno Senna, Hamilton, Lucas di Grassi and Sebastien Buemi.
