After having initially postponed the first free practice sessions, the third and fourth rounds of the 2011 GP2 Asia championship in Bahrain have now been cancelled due to violent protests happening in the city of Manama.
The protests began about one week ago in the country, and have now degenerated into riots, where several people have been killed and many others injured.
Free practice and qualifying for the two races were supposed to be held Thursday, but they were initially postponed to Friday, as the medical equipment and the medical crews were mobilized downtown by the events.
Finally, Sporting Federation of Bahrain decided to cancel both races planned on Friday and Saturday.
The GP2 Asia calendar that comprised just six rounds has now been reduced to just four. The last race of the GP2 series and the opening round of the F1 World Championship to be in March are now under serious threat.
