Simultaneously to the first tests of their new Formula 1 tires at the Mugello circuit, Pirelli had the new GP2 series spec car running on the track with their tires.
While Nick Heidfeld put the 2009 Toyota TF109 to the test, Ben Hanley drove the new GP2/11 car on Pirelli rubber.
The new GP2/11 series’ car will be used from the start of next year. Pirelli will replace Bridgestone as the official tire supplier to both Formula 1 and GP2 series starting next year.
The aerodynamic package of the new GP2 car has been completely overhauled to bring it more into line with the current generation of Formula 1 cars.
Despite being visually very different, the basic chassis remains fundamentally the same apart from an enlarged driver head protection area.
