Romain Grosjean finished third in Spa's first GP2 race of the weekend on Saturday, which was enough for him to secure the 2011 championship. Christian Vietoris won the race.

Vietoris, who also runs in the DTM championship with Mercedes, set the pole position in qualifying ahead of Stefano Coletti.

The German driver kept his advantage and led from light to flag, winning the first round at Spa ahead of Jules Bianchi and Romain Grosjean.

The safety car came out for several minutes after the accident involving Stefano Coletti and Mikhail Aleshin. Coletti, from Monaco, was taken to the hospital and suffers two broken vertebrae.

Third man Romain Grosjean was crowned champion, with three races remaining. He adds another title in his racing career, after French Formula Renault (2005), F3 Euroseries (2007), GP2 Asia (2008) and Auto GP (2010).

Romain Grosjean, who ran the last Formula One Grand Prix in 2009 with Team Renault F1, is rumoured to rejoin the team in a near future.
