Esteban Gutierrez became the first champion in the short history of the GP3 series this past weekend in Monza. Canadian driver Robert Wickens took victory in race 2, as well as second place in the championship.

After a dominant season, Gutierrez had almost the title in pocket before Monza. The Mexican secured the championship when he set the pole position, scoring the point he needed to be out of danger. He was already crowned before the start of race 1.

But Gutierrez did not stop there, and captured another win in race 1 on Saturday ahead of Robert Wickens of Toronto and Indonesian driver Ryo Haranto.

On Sunday, Wickens concluded a great weekend by clinching victory in the second race of the meeting, which was also the final round of the season. It was the third win for the Status GP driver, who finished runner-up this season.

Mirko Bortollotti and Nico Muller took 2nd and 3rd in race 2.

Daniel Morad, the other Canadian in action, took 9th and 7th places this weekend in Monza.
