Grand Prix of Mosport: Spectacular in every way

For the first time, Flagworld was on hand for the GP of Mosport.
It was an incredible experience which we will no doubt repeat.

Dr. Don Panoz, designer of the famous Panoz American Le Mans cars and owner of the Mosport complex, insisted on being present on Sunday for the press conference. Sitting next to him was Scott Atherton, president and CEO of the American Le Mans Series (ALMS). It was great to see both of them; all the journalists were delighted.



A record crowd of 70,000+ spectators showed up for the Grand Prix of Mosport. On Sunday, at noon, the gates were opened and fans could walk along the starting line for about 45 minutes. What a nice gesture from the organizers!




Pre-race ceremonies

Honoring the American tradition during every ALMS race, teams and their guests stand on the starting grid for the pre-race ceremonies.

We had a fantastic view from the press box at the top of the tower...



The first lap
During the warm-up lap before the start of the race, the first qualifiers follow each other in the correct starting order. Then, they find their spot on the grid. Above the pit lane, an official is ready to wave the green flag.

Audis and Porsches lead the way for the first few laps.

Ron Fellows' Corvette

Mosport "Mayor" Ron Fellows, the crowd favorite, drove his Corvette C-6R number 33 all the way to the third step of the podium in the GT1 Class.

It might have been his last race on his lucky track!




The Porsche RS Spyder number 7
At the end of the race, which lasted 2 hours and 45 minutes, Romain Dumas and Timo Bernhard earned a well-deserved victory in the P2 Class. Their Porsche seemed unbeatable.

Only one of the two Audis found its way on the podium (in second place). The other suffered from transmission problems during the last few laps.
