Audi Sport customer racing China announced the implementation of a one-make racing series, based on their successful Audi R8 LMS car, in one of the world’s largest car market.

"Audi was a pioneer in the premium vehicle market in China," said Rene Koneberg, Head of Audi Sport customer racing China. "Now we want to give motor racing in this country a similar impulse."

The timing is right for Audi to give birth to customer-driven series. Earlier this year, Audi's race teams celebrated a one-two victory at the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup finale at Zhuhai, right before another triumph by factory driver Edoardo Mortara in the streets of Macau. The hype around the brand's success is as good as ever.

It should no surprise then, that Audi sales in China are rapidly growing. The Ingolstadt firm expects to deliver more than 300,000 vehicles in China for the 2011 fiscal year.

"China has […] become a kind of second home to Audi," says Dr. Dietmar Voggenreiter, Managing Director of Audi China. "By entering motorsport we aim to start proving Vorsprung durch Technik [innovation through engineering] on the race tracks of this dynamic country as well."
