Nicky Hayden must have been thinking about his teammate Dani Pedrosa when he finished on top of the time sheet yesterday at the Sepang circuit in Malaysia. His Repsol Honda team had surely something to smile about despite the fact they learned that Pedrosa would be out of action for at least 6 weeks.

Hayden made the most of qualifying simulations to outpace reigning MotoGP champion Casey Stoner on the Ducati Marlboro. Yesterday Stoner had problems with his injured hand as he felt cramps that force him to take a break from his work in the afternoon.

Jorge Lorenzo was the fastest Yamaha rider, setting the third quickest time, just ahead of Colin Edwards on the Tech 3 bike.

Randy de Puniet, who led the first two days of testing, ended up 11th fastest overall after having a small accident in the morning.
