Nick Heidfeld (BMW Sauber) set the fastest time today around the Jerez de la Frontera road circuit, southern Spain in the first day of Formula 1 testing.

Today, Bridgestone slick tires were used for the first time in Formula 1 since a long time.

Jenson Button (Honda) clocked the second fastest time - what a surprise - ahead of Pedro de la Rosa (McLaren), Kimi Raikkonen (Ferrari) and Nelson Piquet Jr. (Renault).

There were several surprises such as Sébastien Bourdais (Toro Rosso) in 6th place, and Briton James Rossiter (Super Aguri) who was 12th fastest.
