12:15 PM - Honda just showed off their much-anticipated Ridgeline pickup.

It will be motivated by the same powertrain as the Pilot, a 255-hp 3.5-litre V6 mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission.

The Ridgeline will be the first 50-state ULEV (Ultra Low-Emissions Vehicle) pickup, says Honda.

Features include Honda's VTM-4 four-wheel-drive system, VSA (Vehicle Stability Assist), traction control, ABS brakes, side airbags and side-curtain airbags, and a tire-pressure monitoring system. Honda claims that their new pickup is the most economical of its category.

The Ridgeline's 5-foot long bed is extendable by folding down the cab's rear panel. The bed can accommodate any ATV, motocross or generator made by Honda.

The rear liftgate can be opened two ways: you can swing it down or open it sideways. The open liftgate can support a 300-lb load, more than any other pickup can.

The bed's innovative floor can be lifted to discover a storage bin big enough to carry 3 golf bags.

The Ridgeline is already rolling off the Alliston, Ontario assembly line, and will be on sale in March 2005. No pricing has yet been announced.

Within 5 years, Honda expects that 60% of their sales in the USA will be trucks (pickups, SUVs and minivans), up from the current ratio of 40% today.
