Honda's FCX hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle is now officially in the hands of a few celebrities who are leasing it over the next few years. American Honda Motor Company has announced that Ron Yerxa and Annette Ballester have accepted delivery on Friday, July 25th at Honda of Santa Monica.

Yerxa and Ballester are the world's first FCX customers, and are the first of about 200 others who will lease the machine in Japan and the USA over the next several years. The FCX creates zero emissions and runs on hydrogen. Most of the FCX leases will be to Southern California owners, as a hydrogen refueling infrastructure exists there.

"The FCX Clarity lease program is one more step toward meeting the societal goals of climate stability, renewable energy supplies and zero-emissions transportation," said John Mendel, executive VP of American Honda. "With this key step, we are advancing toward the goal of broader commercialization. Establishing a dedicated sales network and service infrastructure provides customers with the best balance of convenience and the highest level of satisfaction."

Honda claims that he FCX gets the equivalent of about 74 miles per gallon, giving the vehicle a range of 280 miles on a tank of hydrogen gas.
