IZOD IndyCar Series driver Simona de Silvestro, who was involved in a crash 25 minutes into the practice session May 19 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, was not cleared to drive in the Friday’s scheduled six-hour practice session after being evaluated by INDYCAR medical director Dr. Michael Olinger.

The Swiss driver will be re-evaluated at the IU Health Infield Care Center on May 21, preceding scheduled two practice sessions and Pole Day qualifications.

De Silvestro was treated at Methodist Hospital for second-degree burns on the back of her right hand and superficial burns on her left hand. She had the dressings changed.

Simona’s car crashed early in yesterday's session, hitting the wall in Turn 3 and becoming airborne, before landing upside down and in flames.

"Thank you for all the well wishes. Trying to get rid of the Mickey Mouse gloves as soon as possible," she wrote on her Twitter account.

IndyCar rules allow a substitute driver, but a switch necessitates starting at the rear of the 33-car field.

HVM Racing owner Keith Wiggins said the chassis isn't repairable -- "... it's going in the trash" -- and the team began preparing the backup car.
