Conor Daly (Sam Schmidt Motorsports) earned his first ever Firestone Indy Lights race today in Long Beach following the accident involving his team-mate Josef Newgarden who had been leading most of the time.

Unfortunately for Newgarden, who had aver 1.13 seconds overDaly with five laps to go when his car No. 11 Robo-Pong/Sam Schmidt Motorsports nose piled into the Turn 8 tire barrier.

The incident created a full-course caution and Daly went on to take the checkered flag under caution becoming the third first-time winner in as many races this season and grabbed the series points lead.

Esteban Guerrieri, the pole sitter in the No. 7 Lucas Oil/Sam Schmidt Motorsports car, finished second. Stefan Wilson (Andretti Autosport) grabbed his second consecutive podium finish with third.

Canadian Mikael Grenier, who started from the 13th spot due to a transmission problem was able to fight his way back to the front and finished 7th for O2 Racing. Meantime, his team-mate Peter Dempsey when into the tire barriers in Turn one while leading.
