According to reports, IndyCar CEO Randy Bernard is looking forward to have a 2013 schedule that could include up to 20 races with some brand new venues and some very well-known.

For starter, the return of Houston on the 2013 IZOD IndyCar menu has been officialised on Wednesday and the race will be held during the first week of October.

The Texas venue could be the first of many to come and the near future.

We already know that Fort Lauderdale has been active recently in trying to get the attention of the series but we also have learned that other cities like; Austin, Palm Springs, Pocono, Phoenix, Portland and Elkhart Lake have either met with INDYCAR’s CEO or made it known they’d like to discuss the future.

Formula One will be making its debut on the new Austin circuit and track officials have approached Bernard for a race in 2013.

The Phoenix Speedway, which had been dropped by the former IRL in 2000 after having been part of the glorious days of the CART series, is also knocking on the door.

A new road course is being built in Palm Springs and, once again IndyCar has been approached but it is still unknown if the first class track could be ready in time for next year.

The President of the Pocono tri-oval track was the guest of Randy Bernard last week in St Petersburg and he has revealed that the track he’s being re-paved and that the installation of safer barriers is now complete and that they are keen to welcome back Indy cars next season.

Although the venerable circuit was supposed to be on the 2012 schedule for the presentation of an ALMS/IndyCar doubleheader, but had to be dropped because of a date conflict, Road America return is still very much on Bernard’s wish list.

Among other possible stops for the IndyCar series are Portland, Richmond and a possible street race in Chicago around Lake Michigan and the return of Australia.
