Veteran engineer Allen McDonald, who had been one of the most important members of the successful team that put Alex Tagliani’s car on pole for the Indy 500 is leaving the team.
McDonald is leaving Sam Schmidt Motorsports and is going back to Andretti Autosports where he once paired with Dario Franchitti during his 2007 Indy 500 and IndyCar title.
It's believed McDonald, who is regarded as one of the best in the IndyCar paddock, will be paired with Mike Conway, the Long Beach Grand Prix winner who missed qualifying for last month's 95th Indianapolis 500.
General Manager Rob Edwards said SSM was looking at running a second car later in the season and it's thought to be former CART regular Katherine Legge.
