Following the financial troubles encountered after the 2011 Baltimore Grand Prix that jeopardised the future of the event, city officials have now appointed a new promoter for the event.

Baltimore mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake announced yesterday that a new company called Downforce Racing - comprised of two Baltimore entrepreneurs and Indianapolis-based construction executive Dale Dillon – will now run the event.

Dillon already has extensive motorsport experience, having served as IndyCar head of operations for the series' Toronto and St Petersburg races, and he is also behind the push for a street race at Fort Lauderdale in Florida next year.
