Canadian race car driver James Hinchcliffe, the 2010 Firestone Indy Lights Series runner-up is set to test an IndyCar for the first time in his career.

Team Newman Haas Racing announced Wednesday that the 23-year-old from Toronto will test with them at Sebring International Raceway, Florida on Monday 13th and Tuesday 14th of December.

Hinchcliffe enjoyed a stand-out 2010 season racing in the Firestone Indy Lights Series – the final step on the ‘Road to Indy’ and the IZOD IndyCar Series. Competing for Team Moore Racing, the Ontario-native collected victories in Long Beach, Edmonton and Chicago along with a total of eight podiums from 13 starts and four pole positions.

After two seasons in the Indy Lights series, ‘Hinch’, who turns 24 next week, is now keen to cement his place in the 2011 IZOD IndyCar Series with his rookie test with Newman Haas Racing a positive step in the right direction.

“Well it’s been a lifelong dream of mine to compete in the IndyCar Series having followed it so closely growing up and then moving into open-wheel racing,” stated Hinchcliffe.

“The chance to test for a team with the pedigree and heritage of Newman Haas Racing is incredible. I’d really like to thank Carl Haas for this opportunity and I look forward to working with the whole team at Sebring,” said Hinchcliffe.

ChampCar series' veteran Oriol Servia will also be testing for Newman Haas Racing alongside Hinchcliffe in December.
