For the first time ever in the league’s history, two women were voted as the most popular drivers as Danica Patrick took the honour in the IZOD IndyCar Series while Pippa Mann was selected after her impressive season in the Indy Lights series.

Both drivers were honored during the INDY DownForce Banquet October 23 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. For Patrick, it was her sixth consecutive Most Popular Driver Award.

Previous winners for the IndyCar Series include Sam Hornish Jr. (2004), Sarah Fisher (2001-2003), Al Unser Jr. (2000), Scott Goodyear (1999) and Arie Luyendyk (1997-1998).

Mann, who finished fifth in Firestone Indy Lights, was honored by the fans for the first time.

The awards were determined by the vote of the fans at all Indy Racing League events throughout the season, through the Internet and on INDY DownForce, the Indy Racing League’s official fan club.
