This Tuesday will mark the debut of a busy month of activities as teams will start preparing for the upcoming 2013 IZOD IndyCar season with the first test to be held at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana.
This test will be attended by Target Chip Ganassi Racing's Scott Dixon and Team Penske's Helio Castroneves and will be the prelude for the first real testing session that will be held Feb. 19-20 at Sebring International Raceway.
Sebring will welcome the majority of the grid, among them AJ Allmendinger, who has been invited by Team Penske to run the DW12 and see what the American can do in his first outing in open-wheel since 2006.
Penske regulars Castroneves and Will Power will also be on hand as well as Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter-Reay, Marco Andretti and James Hinchcliffe.
KV Racing Technology teammates Tony Kanaan and Simona de Silvestro will be back together as well as returnee Oriol Servia at Panther DRR.
Dario Franchitti will also be there along with teammate Charlie Kimball. Dale Coyne Racing's Justin Wilson, Barracuda Racing's Alex Tagliani and Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing's Josef Newgarden will also attend.
For the first time, we will see new team/driver pairs making their appearance as A.J. Foyt Racing's Takuma Sato, Schmidt Peterson Motorsports’ Tristan Vautier, and Rahal Letterman Racing’s Graham Rahal hit the track.
One week later, testing will continue at Sonoma Raceway with a number of returnees; Simon Pagenaud taking over from Vautier, Dragon Racing's Sebastien Bourdais, Ed Carpenter Racing's Ed Carpenter and Panther Racing's JR Hildebrand.
Meanwhile, Michael Shank Racing has sold its only Dallara DW12 chassis to Schmidt Peterson Motorsports without completely abandoning his dream of competing at Indy, having been offered partnership with other teams.
