Veteran IndyCar racer Justin Wilson is on the road to recovery following the injury he suffered earlier at the Mid-Ohio road course but he is adamant that he won’t rush his return to active duty saying that 2012 is a realistic target.

While practicing last month at the Lexington circuit, Wilson suffered a fractured vertebrae when his Dreyer & Reinbold car went off the road. Ever since, there had been reports that the Briton could be back for this year’s finale in Las Vegas.

"I might be fit enough to drive at Vegas, but for the sake of one race, when I'm not in contention for anything in the championship, it just doesn't make sense," Wilson said.

"Jumping in the car after 11 and a bit weeks isn't the right way to see if my back is 100 per cent healed or not," he added.
