Although Lotus is still working hard to be able to supply engine for the 2012 IZOD IndyCar season, it is now certain that the first scheduled track test for its engine has now been moved to an undetermined date in January.

Originally, the new John Judd-built 2.2-liter, twin-turbo V6 Lotus engine, was supposed to have its first shakedown at the Sebring International Raceway on December 13th.

As its main competitors Chevrolet and Honda have already begun their track testing programs back in October with their respective partner teams, it looks as though Lotus could well faced a huge disadvantage that will be hard to overcome.

We have also learned that Bryan Herta Autosport, winner of the 2011 Indy 500 and closely associated with the development of the new Dallara DW12, is believed to be close to signing on as an anchor team for Lotus.

That expertise acquired by the BHA’s mechanics and engineers could therefore become an invaluable asset for Lotus to have at its disposal.
