If the Lotus-powered teams thought that they were at a disadvantage since the start of the season, things are not going to improve as with the news that Lotus/Judd doesn’t have enough engines for its teams to take part in the Indy test this coming Wednesday.

The test organised by the IndyCar series was designed to offer teams and manufacturers more on-track time to work on the new technical packages as well as allowing Dallara to try-out its aerodynamic package designed for the upcoming May 500-mile classic.

Claudio Berro, Group Lotus director of motorsport told Autosport that Lotus' chances of making the test were "50 per cent", although all five of the Lotus teams have since confirmed that they will not be running.

The Lotus teams endured a difficult time at Barber Motorsport circuit last Sunday. Team Barracuda BHA changed the engine in Alex Tagliani's car following last week's race in St. Petersburg, resulting in a 10-place penalty at Barber.

"We took the green flag, went into turn one and the engine just died," said Tagliani.

"We are unhappy that we suffered another engine issue two weekends running," said team owner Bryan Herta.
