Dale Coyne Racing’s Mike Conway surely made his employer happy by winning, in his first outing with the squad, the opening race of this weekend's IndyCar double-header in Detroit.
To say that Conway dominated the race is an understatement since the Briton crossed the line more than 12 seconds ahead of current IndyCar champion Ryan Hunter-Reay (Andretti Autosport).
Conway and Hunter-Reay had battled since the beginning of the race but Hunter-Reay lost his momentum and any chance of overtaking Conway when he switched to the red tires for the middle stint and immediately began to struggle.
It was a great afternoon for Dale Coyne since the team’s other driver Justin Wilson finished third barely edging Ganassi’s Scott Dixon.
Team Penske’s Helio Castroneves completed the top 5.
