Panther Racing will be one of the other Chevrolet teams for the 2012 IZOD IndyCar season; having been one of the top squad years ago with the American manufacturer engines.

As a Chevrolet partner, Panther will join both Penske and Andretti Autosport who already have committed to running Chevy engines while Honda itself has already signed up Chip Ganassi Racing, AJ Foyt Racing and Sam Schmidt Motorsports as customer teams for its engines.

In the past, Chevrolet and Panther Racing have won two IndyCar championships together, in 2001 and 2002, with driver Sam Hornish Jr. Panther had been the last team to be powered by Chevrolet in 2005 before the manufacturer withdrew from the series.

The third engine supplier slated to provide power plants to cars next season, Lotus, have yet to announce any team that have signed with them, although they plan to field Jean Alesi in a Lotus-powered car in next year's Indy 500.
