KV Racing Technology’s Takuma Sato finally claimed his first IndyCar Series pole position after setting the fastest speed in qualifying for the Iowa round.
As it had been the case one week ago on the short oval of Milwaukee, the KV Racing squad was also able to put another driver in the top spots. Tony Kanaan took third after having hold provisional pole for quite some time.
Danica Patrick (Andretti Autosport) took the second spot on the grid between the teammates – by far her best result of the year.
JR Hildebrand (Panther) took fourth place in front of Will Power who was the fastest Penske driver on track; his teammates Ryan Briscoe and Helio Castroneves finished respectively 10th and 13th.
Power will share the third row with his main rival in the championship battle, Dario Franchitti (Ganassi).
Canadian James Hinchcliffe impressed with seventh place for Newman/Haas while his countryman Alex Tagliani (Sam Schmidt Motorsports) could only managed 15th.
Simona de Silvestro (HVM Racing) has not taken part in the qualifying runs. A medical examination revealed that she was still suffering from the effects of concussion from her Milwaukee qualifying crash.
