New AJ Foyt driver Takuma Sato did not take much time to get at ease with his new surroundings, topping the first IndyCar test at Sebring on Tuesday.
The former Formula One driver was able to have the better over Ganassi's Scott Dixon, who ended-up second in front of Will Power (Team Penske).
Dixon’s teammate Dario Franchitti was fourth followed by yet-to-be-confirmed-at-Dale Coyne Racing Justin Wilson.
AJ Allmendinger returned to the wheel of a single-seater for the first time in more than six years as he tested a Dallara DW-12 for Penske.
"My heart was beating fast and [in] the first couple of runs the car was definitely driving me," said Allmendinger.
"Everything feels real fast. A Cup car has more horsepower, but because of its weight that sensation of speed is a lot different. When you get an IndyCar on a road course, it feels like it has 1500 horsepower."
AJ Allmendinger was 12th of the 13 cars present.
