After competing at Indianapolis in 2002, veteran driver Tony Kanaan joined the IndyCar Series in 2003 with Andretti Green Racing. He started his relationship by winning the pole for the season-opening race at Homestead-Miami Speedway and the season's championship.

The next season, he became the first IndyCar Series driver to complete every lap (3,305) and set a then-series record with 889 laps led on the way to the championship. The Brazilian finished second or third in the championship standings three of the succeeding four years.

This weekend's race in Long Beach will be the 100th start for Kanaan and it will be still with Andretti-Green Racing.
