Ganassi’s Dario Franchitti had the best of his main title rival, Will Power (Penske), by earning the pole position at the Miami Homestead Speedway Friday.
By winning the pole ahead of this season’s finale, Franchitti has reduced to only 11 points the deficit that separates him from Power. The Scot’s team-mate Scott Dixon alongside him on the front row.
Power held provisional pole for much of the session and looked secure until Franchitti produced a two-lap run 0.1432 seconds quicker than the Australian, who then lost second to Dixon too.
Briscoe held on to fourth while Dan Wheldon (Panther Racing) took a superb fifth on the grid.
FAZZT Racing’s Alex Tagliani was not able too maintain the speed he had earlier in practice and qualified a distant 19th.
