Due to obvious lack of financial support and sponsorship, the IRL will have no choice but to cancel next season's IndyCar race at the Belle-Isle circuit in Detroit. This event had been a long time feature on the Champ car calendar and was brought back by Roger Penske in 2007.

Already, other venues such as Birmingham (Alabama), Utah and a Nashville street circuit have already expressed their desire to host and IndyCar round, as well as the former Champ Car rounds at Portland and Surfers Paradise.

The loss of Belle-Isle also affects the American Le Mans Series, which has supported the IndyCar event for the last two years.
