Several returning IZOD IndyCar Series drivers were asked to pick their choice for the 2010 IZOD IndyCar Series champion and the series’ Rookie of the Year and here are there choices.

Most of the drivers, as well as most observers like your humble writer, agree that Target Chip Ganassi Racing's two-year reign atop the championship standings will end only to be replaced by Team Penske.

The Team Penske's triumvirate of Helio Castroneves, Ryan Briscoe and Will Power drew 75 percent of the vote while current IndyCar champion Dario Franchitti gets only one vote.

Castroneves was mentioned the most of the Penske drivers with five votes, while Briscoe had four votes and Power had three. My own pick: Power will be the driver to beat this year.

Who will be the 2010 IZOD IndyCar Champion?

1. Helio Castroneves 5 votes
2. Ryan Briscoe 4
3. Will Power 3
4. Dario Franchitti 1

Rookie of the Year

The drivers were unanimous, in their picks for the series' top rookie (and I totally agree) in a class that features four drivers graduating from developmental series and a Formula One veteran. Takuma Sato (pictured), who will compete with KV Racing Technology, was the overwhelming selection receiving all votes.

Although the vote was not unanimous this time, Sato was also voted as the driver who could be the biggest surprise in 2010.

The Japanese received the most votes in the survey with three, with his teammate E.J. Viso among the other five drivers receiving one vote; Ryan Hunter-Reay, Danica Patrick, Mario Romancini also received votes in the poll.
