IRL: Tony Kanaan takes pole for Richmond night race

Tony Kanaan edged his Andretti Green's teammate Marco Andretti by the narrow margin of 0.03 seconds to secure pole position for the night race to be held Saturday at the Richmond track.

Newman-Haas-Lanigan's Graham Rahal took a surprise third just in front of series leader Scott Dixon.

Former Indy 500 winner Buddy Rice completes the top 5. Rahal's teammate Justin Wilson had a disatrous day finishing way back in 23rd.

Team Penske did not have their best moments as drivers Briscoe and Castroneves finished in 11th and 18th spot.
