On October 11th, 2008, a Belgian driver named Luc Costermans reached a speed of 308.78 km/h with a Lamborghini Gallardo at the 125 d’Istres airfield in Bouches-du-Rhône, setting a world record for a blind driver.
Despite losing the ability to see in 2004, Costermans is still an avid auto racing fan. Earlier this week, with the help of his co-driver, Guillaume Roman, he even took part in the Rallye de France Shakedown with a Ford Focus RS, marking a first for a blind person.
