Jaguar has unveiled the Type 01, a four-door electric grand tourer that marks the beginning of a new generation of models for the British brand. The automaker announces an output of over 1,000 hp and expects to sell it at a starting price of $178,000 in Canada.
Order books are set to open in early 2027, with initial customer deliveries expected to follow during the second half of the same year. Jaguar notes that the announced price remains preliminary and corresponds to the 1030 trim.
Powertrain of the Jaguar Type 01
Designed, developed and built in the UK, the Type 01 is the first production model to be built on the Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA), a platform developed specifically for the brand’s electric vehicles.
The car uses an 850-volt electrical architecture. Jaguar estimates its maximum driving range at 644 km on a full charge when equipped with 21-inch wheels. However, this is a manufacturer estimate and not an official homologated rating.
When connected to a 350-kW fast charger, the Type 01 can regain up to 322 km of range in as little as 13 minutes, according to Jaguar. Actual charging times will depend on various factors.
The manufacturer has not yet detailed battery capacity, motor configuration or acceleration times. It does, however, present the Type 01 as its most powerful and aerodynamic road car to date.
Design of the Jaguar Type 01
The Type 01 features a low roofline, a long hood and an elongated silhouette. Despite its electric powertrain and four-door layout, Jaguar draws a stylistic line to the proportions of two iconic models from its past: the E-Type and the XJS.
Its nameplate also references this history. The word Type recalls classic Jaguars, while the "0" signifies zero tailpipe emissions. The number 1 indicates that it is the first model of this new generation.
Launch event in New York
The unveiling took place in Manhattan, featuring digital projections across several areas of the city and a presentation at the Storied event space in West Chelsea. The vehicle was also driven on closed roads specially secured for the occasion. At the event, Jaguar presented actress Florence Pugh as the brand’s new ambassador.
Beyond the launch presentation, further details remain to be revealed, including standard equipment, additional trims and full technical specifications for the Type 01.
