Jaguar's latest kitten is to be a four-door sedan, the British luxury automaker announced yesterday. It's called the XF, and it will go on sale as a 2009 model with the style and performance of a sports car and the space and sophistication of a luxury sedan.

The XF demonstrates the unique new design language the carmaker will begin using now and into the future. "As one of the most visually striking, technically sophisticated and driver-oriented sedan cars that Jaguar has ever produced, the XF clearly demonstrates the forward-looking focus that now defines the Jaguar brand," said Wayne Burgess, XF Senior Design Manager. "With its dramatic styling, powerful flowing lines and a distinctive front, the new XF looks like no other Jaguar. Yet it defines the new design language the company will be adopting for all future models."

It could be an uncertain future- as Jaguar has been struggling for success in North America for some time. But if there are plenty of buyers out there looking for an exquisite yet very unique cabin, they've little to worry about. The priority inside is to be different- a goal Jaguar meets with a modern layout of wood and leather, aluminum, phosphor-blue lighting and several interesting new technologies including the Jaguar Drive Selector and Jaguar Sense. The latter is a motion activated system which is used to operate certain features inside the car.

Power comes from a choice of two V8 engines. Both of 4.2 litres displacement, the standard model is motivated by 300 horsepower while the supercharged variant creates 420. Both engines drive a six-speed manual gearbox with paddle shifters.

Pricing for Jaguar's XF will be announced later this fall.
