Russ Bond and the Canadian Karting League are extremely proud to announce that advanced, state of the art technology has finally arrived in karting.

The Honda F4i kart is a ‘world first’ as being the first kart to be fuel injected. In addition, the F4i is the first kart to feature a catalytic converter as part of the exhaust system.

The powerplant and gearbox come from the Honda CBR 125R motorcycle. The electric start, water-cooled 125cc four-stroke engine produces 13 horsepower, and is fitted to the five-speed sequential gearbox and electronics all taken from the CBR 125R.

The kart also features an electronic fuel pump and regulator located inside the kart tank, start/stop kill switch, fuel injection, computer diagnostics plug, single disc rear brake, 40mm two-bearing axle and thermostatically controlled cooling fan.

“One day on a Honda press trip I saw a CBR 125R and as I looked it over, I saw fuel injection, I saw the catalytic converter and I immediately began to dream of having that motor on a kart,” Russ Bond said.

“The idea is to integrate the Honda F4i into our Canadian Karting League, arrive-and-drive series in 2012 for the cadets. There's been a tremendous level of interesting to this new machine. Currently we have 225 members in our program, so filling the F4i's with 15 cadets or so will not be a problem,” Bond added.

Bond added that the karts could not be purchased by the competitors. All machines would be owned by the Canadian Karting League and rented to the drivers in order to control the costs and level of preparation.

The plan is also to fit them with extra hard tires that could last an entire season. Bond also added that the CBR 125 engines are amazingly reliable and are expected to be raced for an entire season without performing any tricky maintenance. The F4i kart is also environmentally friendly because it produces very low levels of fumes and is extremely quiet.
