Karting Kids: competitive sport teaches youngsters valuable lessons about speed and safety
Karting Kids: competitive sport teaches youngsters valuable lessons

We've all from time to time spent a few dollars to lap a miniature track in a miniature race car, throwing aside all we've been taught about responsible driving manners for a bit of tire squealing action- go kart style.

It's addicting, entertaining and a real blast - especially when you win. Maybe that's why for a select few, karting takes on a far more meaningful purpose than simple kicks.

William Vigneault

One can imagine a young driver like nine-year-old William Vigneault starting at the rental track, doing well racing against friends and family, then becoming one of the rare racers that follows the desire for challenges, competitive velocity, and becoming one with his machine and the track.

Vigneault won't even get his drivers license for another 7 years but has already become a well-known name in the youth Karting scene. He is undefeated in the Royal Tire Karting Championship with five straight victories, and also has a trophy rack filled with gold and silver medals from 8 Ontario Club races- an impressive resume for a youngster indeed.

As one of the fastest growing motorsports in the world, competitive karting offers the adrenaline laced action of full scale racing, but for a fraction of the cost. Getting involved in the sport can obviously be expensive and time consuming, but the rewards are many. Interested parents or kids are best advised to check out some races to get a taste of the scene.

The Toronto Kart Club website says "If you are even thinking about getting involved with kart racing, we recommend the very first step is to come out and watch a racing event. Words can simply not describe the sounds, the speeds, and the action. Seeing is believing."

The TKC website also lists some of the equipment required to get started in the sport, which includes tires, rims, a Snell 2000 approved helmet, racing suit, safety gear and of course a kart and engine.
