Starting with the end of the 4-cylinder engine, the Chevrolet Malibu family sedan undergoes several notable changes for 2000.

GM has dropped the 2.4-litre Twin Cam inline-4 entirely from this model, which means the base sedan and the LS trim now run on the 3.1-litre V-6. This engine gets some emission enhancements for 2000, but it still delivers 170 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 190 pound-feet of torque at 4000 rpm.

After that, changes to Malibu for 2000 are minor -- new front centre grille and emblem changes, a vented sunshade for the sunroof, rear seat assist grips added to the LS headliner, painted mudguards standard on the LS, lock out protection, and an optional decklid spoiler.

GM of Canada has also instituted price increases on Malibu for 2000, with the base car with its bigger engine going to $21,920 from $20,895, and the LS going to $24,740 from $24,170.
